Movies in the Park: 11 Fantasy Living Room Decor Ideas Inspired by Theater in the Garden

Movies in the Park/Theater in the Garden

1.) Twinkling Grass Wall

Grass and flower walls are very versatile. can fit any combination of vintage, romantic, glamous, bohemian, gothic, or fantasy fairytale styles.

The panels come with all kinds of different leaves, grass, and flowers. ick one that goes with the color scheme and personality for your living room.

Some sets even come with the fairy lights pre-installed and spare bulbs!

My first instinct was to add a neon sign like all the beauty, fashion, health, wellness etc. influencers have…but I wound up going a much different direction.

When I was planning my grass accent wall, I couldn’t decide on a grass wall with a few flowers, a thick wild flower garden wall, or a wall with all kinds of roses…so I did all three. Thankfully I had enough room in my small living room for two to three accent walls (even though they’re more like sections with trim.)

I also decided to put the secret rose garden wall in my walk-in closet though, that way it isn’t too much in one room and it adds to the secret garden vibe. I’ll make a post on this project later.

I wanted this accent wall to be fully customized and interchangeable if need be. I learned this the hard way when the power went out…and so did one half of the strand of purple fairy lights I had framing my window. They were never recovered. RIP.

Fairy lights

I wanted the flexibility of being able to move the lights around, but I also like the idea of the pre-installed versions since I only want a few evenly dispersed lights. I’ll update this post when I make a decision and show you my mistakes so you don’t make them too. I might get my own fairy lights that allow up to five strands. I’ll try a couple strands first and loosely weave them back and forth, again, zip tie-ing them to the grass paneling and tuck in any lose wiring.

Flowers

This is where the idea of doing multiple walls was born, from my inability to make decisions.

I got my own artificial flowers to sparingly zip tie to the grass paneling. Flowers make the grass wall feel more romantic, especially roses. I’m obsessed with roses: natural red pink, yellow roses, and white roses. I don’t even mind an artificial purple, blue, or orange rose.

I could sparingly add just roses in all the aforementioned colors for a rose garden theme. But to be honest, they were all so pretty I picked them all for a true wild garden feel, especially if I go for a more full style.

Now for the install…

The install is fairly easy. The panels are flexible and can be trimmed for a snug fit along windows, outlets, TV mounts, etc.

2.) Macrame Indoor/Outdoor Picnic Swing

I bought a twin macrame bench picnic seat for more room and a heavy pole stand with two d-links that can support more than 600 pounds.

Alternatively, you can get a single macrame egg swing and frame for singles or smaller rooms.

They make heavy frames that would accommodate both swing styles for single and twin swings. Just measure first! To twist a full 360 degrees, just clip both d-links to the center ring. For a more traditional picnic bench seat that goes back and forth like a traditional swing, clip the d-links on each side. This the option

3.) Potted Plants & Propagation Plant Stations

4.) Hanging Plants & Suncatchers

Don’t just have potted plants on the floor and shelving, but hang several plants and suncatchers in front of windows or get one or two for smaller spaces. Ivy wrapped around the macrame and a crystal suncatcher looks really nice like the photo above.

5.) Ivy Garlands & Fairy Lights

Ivy, flowers, and fairy lights can really warm a room up and bring it to life (especially in combination with the other ideas in this blog post.)

Combine soft, warm, twinkling fairy lights with ivy and leafy garlands to frame your windows, paintings, and accent mirror, hang with your sheer curtains, and/or over your couch etc. for an enchanted garden feel. The options are endless and they can be plug-in, battery powered, even solar powered for outdoor fairy lights!

6.) Gardenscape Paintings

I thankfully inherited a decent collection of Thomas Kinkade paintings from my mother. Growing up I didn’t see their value but as a woman in her thirties? All bets are off.

He’s famous for the way he painted lighting, it looked like there was a real light that glowed.

and they don’t have to be Thomas Kinkaid paintings!

7.) Candles & Wax

To fully bring the room to life, candles and wax warmers are everything.

Wooden wick candles snap, crackle, and pop just like a fireplace!

Floral scents make sense, it’s a park/garden after all, but I find they give me headaches.

I’m thinking of buttery movie theater popcorn, or sugary fair food goodness like cotton candy, funnel cake, and sweet tea.

Did you know they make Blockbuster and VHS store scented candles and wax? It’s supposed to smell like popcorn, and light dust. I’ll try it and let you know how it smells!

8.) Blankets & Pillows

Nothing says ‘fantasy fairytale living room’ more than soft, cozy blankets to cuddle with while there’s snow storm going outside.

9.) Fireplace

If you have a fireplace, make it the central focus! Mount your TV to save room and frame it all with twinkling grass panels or floral ivy garlands. Potted plants and propagation stations could go on the mantle.

But if you don’t have a fireplace, you can either get an electric fireplace or even your television. You can keep the TV at eye level and not only would it mimic a real fireplace, but…

10.) Ambient Sound Machine

With Youtube, the options are endless. Play a no-add 10 hour video of a fireplace to look and sound like the real deal, or go for a stream, a storm on the beach, etc.

11.) Dad’s Memorial

My dad was my biggest fan and cheerleader. Unfortunately he passed August 2025 from Leukemia four days before his 65th birthday and his retirement. I found an old journal (that I barely maintained let’s be so for real) that mentions my dad telling me opening a business (or several) was the best idea I ever had.

In honor of him, I put together a memorial remembrance area. He collected VHS tapes, so I took as many of them as I could and fit them into a book case. There’s ash trays I bought him from New York City and his old hats.
